Chiroptera (2018) is an installation featuring a flying mixed colony of bats. With this piece I hope to shine some light on this often-overlooked and misunderstood order of mammals. Widely associated as blood-sucking varmints (via popular culture) only a few of the 1,200 species of bats actually feed on animals other than insects. Most are insectivores and frugivores (fruit eaters). Bats are extremely important to our ecosystems for pollinating flowers and dispersing seeds to facilitate new plant growth.
